About Us

How We Got Started

Building ReSources of San Francisco (BRSF) was established in 2023 to replace the previous occupant of its Amador Street location, Building REources.

The names of the two companies are similar for good reason. The business — accepting donations of salvaged building materials and reselling them at remarkably low prices — has not changed. Visitors my even recognize many of the same staff. What has changed are the leadership, structure and future of this valuable community resource.

The site is owned by the Port of San Francisco and leased to the City of San Francisco. In 2023, the City, having determined that the operation was in need of new management, issued a public request for takeover proposals. BRSF, a nonprofit company, responded to that request and a few months later was selected as the new operator.

The vision of BRSF is to create an urban hub specializing in the sale and distribution of low cost, high value salvaged building materials. A place where the public can enjoy browsing through orderly displays of appliances, cabinets, doors, windows, lumber and other building components, including carefully curated antiques and quarterly exhibits of local art. Where visitors can briefly relax in an onsite garden, knowing that the purchases they make will enjoy new life, not end up in a landfill.

Though we have activated the BRSF vision, much remains to be done. We are de-cluttering the yard, improving the quality of the materials, and enhancing the overall visual and shopping experience. This will take time and continued investment, but with the assistance and suggestions of our customers, the future is bright.
